We have a Condo in Fountain Hills AZ that was in need of some updating. It had been neglected by the past few renters. After a few bad rental experiences and living in Nashville TN we have decided to sell the unit. The entire condo had gold trim. Being on a budget we found inexpensive ways to update the gold. The condo had a gold walk in shower with glass doors, good trim around mirrors, mirrored closet doors, door handles, facets, and white and gold ceiling fans. My husband, John, a general contractor, is skilled with shake and spray cans of paint. His weapon of choice is Rust-oleum Painters Touch 2X. Gloss white covered the gold on the ceiling fans and white pulls on the bi-fold laundry doors. We taped all the trim on the mirrors and sprayed them with Rust-oleum aluminum. Three coats and bam! No more gold. The shower door and frame came part in pieces by removing a few screws. The tuff part was removing the old caulk from the tile and frame. John suggested I used a straight blade. He warned me to keep fingers away from the front of the blade. We cleaned the surface and sprayed three light coats of paint. All the paint dried almost instantly with the dry Arizona heat. 106 every day we were in town. Removed the tape and newspaper and the gold disappeared. John re-caulked the shower frame and installed the doors. See below for the before and after pictures! We will not know how long the paint will last as the unit is for sale!- Dawn Kornovich
